Chicken water intake reflects health!

Whether the chicken is in good condition or not, you can tell by looking at the amount of chicken water intake you drink!

Chicken raising tips

Often, when we see a problem with flock growth rate, feed conversion, flock health or egg performance and none of the measures you take are working, the problem can be on the water.

Water participates in almost all metabolic activities in the chicken body and plays an important role.

Generally, the water consumption of chickens is about twice the amount of feed intake. When the water intake of chickens decreases, the feed intake will also decrease and the egg production performance will increase with its rapid decline. When the water intake of chickens exceeds 2.5 times of feed intake, the chicken manure will become soft and thin, which will also affect the production performance of chickens accordingly.

The dangers of insufficient drinking water for chickens

Insufficient drinking water can lead to kidney disease, polycythemia, dry skin, soft or mushy inner layer of gizzard, and death from dehydration in severe cases. Insufficient drinking water can cause ovarian necrosis, muscle gastritis, and kidney disease in laying hens; egg production decreases, egg weight decreases, egg shells become thinner, shellless eggs, and even stop production.

Practice has proved that if laying hens are cut off from water for 24 hours, the egg production will drop by about 30%, and it will take 25 to 30 days to return to normal egg production. If water is cut off for 36 hours, it is difficult for egg production to return to normal egg production levels. If the water is cut off for 36-40 hours, it may cause chicken “drunk syndrome” or “water intoxication” and lead to increased mortality in the flock.

A few hours without water in high temperature conditions can also increase chicken mortality.

The chickens drink water at the peak every day. It is very abnormal if the chickens do not have an obvious peak of water consumption within a day. The level of the water line and water pressure, the effective flushing of the water line.

When there is slow growth, poor uniformity and high death rate of chickens in a certain part of your chicken house, especially when your chickens are in one or several batches, even a year or a few years, always When there is a problem, or even always the same problem, then there must be a problem with the drinking water.

Factors Affecting Water Inadequate

The water intake of chickens mainly depends on the ambient temperature, feed intake, feed and drinking water quality, and also affects the production performance and health of the chickens.

1.Ambient temperature

The amount of water the chickens drink varies with the ambient temperature.

2.Water temperature

Chicks can tolerate a water temperature difference of 5-30°C. If the water temperature exceeds 26.7°C, the chicken water intake and daily weight gain will decrease significantly. Studies have shown that a low water temperature of 4.4 °C has little effect on body weight, and a high water temperature of 37.8 °C will reduce body weight by 8% to 10% compared to 21.1 °C, indicating that high water temperature has an impact on body weight.

3.Egg production rate

The amount of water drinking increases with the increase in egg production rate. In general, for every 10% increase in egg production rate, the water consumption of each chicken should increase by about 12 ml.
